Introduced in the 1930’s and still in active use on the network right up to the 1990’s, the ICI Hopper Wagons were built to last. Indeed growing up in the early 1990’s I still remember the regular occurrences of 3 Class 37’s (2 at the front and one at the back) hauling a rake of ICI hoppers up the summit to Bibbingtons, just outside of Buxton. The house would rattle and the growling from the 37’s, as they paced up the gradient, fully loaded with limestone was deafening.
The ICI 8 Wheel Hoppers are still to this day one of my favourite wagons and so it only felt appropriate that I had a go at modelling one. I used many images to model the hopper, but mostly from the Derby Sulzers website. Per usual I have done my best to add as much detail as possible.
